"The light of a candle/ is transferred to another candle/ spring twilight" - Yosa Buson.
In my interpretation of the poem the light represents a person, and how their influence on another can bring new knowledge and happiness.
Sketches

I began with some quick sketches of some ideas for compositions. I knew I wanted to keep it simple by only using circles. We only had a week to complete this project, so I knew I had to get some quick ideas down on paper so that I could begin working as soon as possible.
Digital Iterations

I then brought my designs into Illustrator, testing out what worked and what didn't. At this point I also began adding color. In my different iterations I focused on how I wanted the idea of light to progress through the zine. My first few iterations had too much going on too quickly, so I then I made sure to focus on starting small to get the full impact of the ending.
When printed out, the colors in the first iteration were too dark, so that was the first change that I made. I then began to simplify the design on the first two pages. I wanted to represent one solitary person, but the size was too large and giving too much of an initial impact. By making the circles smaller it also created more of a steady progression through the entire design. I kept the cover design simple with the unfilled circles to represent the glow of a light that is slowly dying.
